Great news for DIRECTV/TiVo customers—new features are on the way!
We know you love your DIRECTV/TiVo and we at DIRECTV are working with TiVo to make it even better. As a DIRECTV/TiVo customer, you'll soon have access to the latest innovations such as:
- DIRECTV Remote Booking. Forgot to set up a recording before you left the house? From any computer with Internet access you can schedule recordings remotely by visiting directv.com.
- Recently Deleted Folder. Quickly restore deleted programs to your "Now Playing" list.
- Overlap Protection. Never worry about recording conflicts again. For consecutive scheduled recordings that overlap, TiVo will clip the ending of the first show or the beginning of the second (based on the higher priority), but will never cancel one of your recordings.
These new features are completely FREE and you don't need to do anything to get them. In early 2008 the enhancements will automatically download to your DIRECTV/TiVo receiver, if it is hooked up to a land-based phone line. DIRECTV and TiVo will continue to explore future enhancements to bring you the most robust TV viewing experience.
So sit back, relax and continue to enjoy the best television available.
Thank you for being a loyal DIRECTV customer.

DirecTV is offering $20 off and a free interactive receiver (model D10) for existing customers who order the NFL Sunday Ticket package. Get more information on the DirecTV website or by calling 1-800-GET-SPORTS. Order by July 31 to take advantage of this great offer.
Note the free receiver is intended to replace your old receiver; if you instead want to keep it as an additional receiver, you'll have to pay the $5/mo mirroring fee.

Probably not.
Previously, your receivers had to be plugged into a phone line if you had multiple receivers on the same account so that DirecTV could verify each receiver was at the same address. If you didn't have a phone jack behind your television, you could put one in wirelessly with a set of wireless phone jacks. But that didn't work for RV users and others without a landline at all, and so DirecTV is not enforcing that requirement as strictly anymore.
Now, DirecTV is only now requiring your receiver be plugged into a phone line if you order Pay-Per-View movies... and even then, only if you order them through the button on your remote. PPV can also be ordered on the DirecTV website or over the phone (calling in costs more money though). DirecTivos require a phone line for initial setup, but after that all guide and Tivo data is received over the satellite, so you can safely unplug the phone. And DirecTV's newest Tivo-less DVR doesn't seem to require a phone line at all.
DirecTivos may require a phone line to get software updates, and if the phone isn't plugged in, it'll annoying remind you with a daily on-screen prompt. And if you plug a phone line into your DirecTV DVR, you'll get the benefit of Caller ID appearing on-screen when the phone rings. But in neither case is constant phone line access required for regular functionality.
If you've run into a situation where your DirecTV receiver actually does require a phone line, please contact us and let us know. Otherwise, enjoy the new freedom of being able to move your receiver anywhere, even if there's no phone jack!

Here's a good instruction page on how to repair a non-working remote control.
If you're not successful with the DIY repair, you can always contact us for a quote on a replacement.
Tips for keeping your remotes in working order:
- Do not drop the remote!
- Keep the greasy fingers off the remote! Tightly wrap the remote in plastic wrap. Seal the bottom with tape. We've seen any number of remotes with soda pop poured into them.
- Be gentle. If a remote's not working, it's not likely that slapping it around will help.
- Replace both batteries at once with fresh batteries of the same type. Don't mix and match.

Have you seen DirecTV's new Mix Channels? Press the Active button on your remote, or tune to channel 102, NewsMix. NewsMix will show you six news channels (Fox News, CNN, CNN HN, MSNBC, CNBC, and the Weather Channel) on one screen. A box in the upper left corner contains a special DirecTV video news summary. You'll probably need at least a 27-inch television to get the most out of a screen split six ways.
If you have a newer DirecTV receiver, you can move the selection with the arrow keys on your remote control; the selected box will take over the audio, and pressing select will switch to that channel. Older receivers will only play audio from the DirecTV summary box.
DirecTV also offers SportsMix on 104, which includes ESPN, ESPN2, NFL Net, NBA TV, Golf, and SpeedVision. Customers with special sports packages can also watch every game that plays simultaneously, so you don't miss a second of the action.
Finally, channel 111 is KidsMix, featuring Disney, Disney Toon, BabyFirst TV, Cartoon Network, Noggin, and Nick.
Tune to 105, the Mix Info channel, for more details.

DirecWay is now named HughesNet, and HughesNet is requiring everyone using their @direcway.com e-mail addresses to switch to new @hughes.net e-mail addresses. While it can be a pain to switch, customers have until August to accomplish it.
It's good to get started now, so you have plenty of time to notify your contacts of your new HughesNet e-mail address before your DirecWay e-mail is terminated. Horizon offers telephone support for those requiring assistance for a nominal fee. Just contact us to set up an appointment.
For those with some technical savvy, here are the manual configuration instructions.
